Blogs

No-one reads blogs nowadays. Unless they are selling you a lifestyle or something.

On a personal level I still follow a few blogs of old friends and of people I’ve met through blogging in the last twenty years, even if they have now moved to Substack. I’m interested in the little, everyday things. I’m drawn to writing that is honest, micro, vulnerable. Something like auto-ethnography.

Lucy Pepper “Pretending”

Euan Semple “The Obvious”

Mollie Semple “The Unintended”

Ton Zylstra “Interdependent Thoughts”

I’m not listing the multitude of current affairs substacks and publications I subscribe to.

Books

Not many people read books either. This is my latest reading in order of the current one on top:

The unwomanly face of war, by Svetlana Alexievich

Remarkably bright creatures, by Shelby van Pelt

Against

decolonisation: taking African agency seriously, by Olúfémi Táíwò

Left is not woke, Susan Neiman

All fours, Miranda July
